Dendrobium tobaense var giganteum blooming size species orchid
Dendrobium tobaense is native to Northwest Sumatra on the northeast shores of Lake Toba. This particular form is the giganteum type with much larger flowers -- up to 3 inches across.
The flowers, often but not always somewhat fragrant, appear on the canes.
Ours are 12 to 15 inches high in sphagnum moss in 4-inch pots, and we think they have reached blooming size.
We define blooming size as likely to flower inside 12 months, if properly grown. Probably not for beginners. Not in flower now.
Allow to get almost dry, but not quite, between waterings. Keep warm, these are tropical. Can be semi-deciduous; don't worry if the canes lose leaves.
